Charities pick up football cheques.

A GROUP of 14 charities have thanked the team behind the Coventry Telegraph Cup after they were each given pounds 500.

Every year money raised from the popular minor league football competition is dished out to a lengthy list of worthy causes that includes the Myton Hospices, Coundon Care Centre and Coventry City Mission.

They gathered recently to receive the cash, ahead of this year's final at the Ricoh Arena on May 3. The schools final will be between Bishop Ullathorne Roman Catholic School and Myton School.

The senior games sees Southam United and Alvis FC.

Money was also handed out to Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, Children's Liver Disease Foundation, Marie Curie Cancer Centre, Mercia Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, Royal British Legion, Cancer Research UK, the University Hospital charity, Children's Christmas Wish List, Alzheimer's Society, British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society and St John's Ambulance.
