Charges in fatal shooting.

Byline: The Register-Guard

CHESHIRE - Lane County sheriff's investigators on Friday arrested the ex-husband of a woman who died Oct. 10 in an accidental shooting at the couple's home along Highway 36 in Cheshire.

Jeremy Lee Durant, 23, was charged with second-degree manslaughter and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm in the death of Lacy Jo Durant, 21. A two month-investigation concluded the shooting was accidental, sheriff's Sgt. Matt Keetle said.

The shooting happened as the two were talking about going hunting.

Jeremy Durant was unloading a rifle inside their home at 23850 Highway 36 around 6 p.m. when the rifle discharged, killing Lacy Durant.

The couple was divorced but living together, Keetle said. Drug or alcohol use did not play a role in the accident, he said.

Durant is scheduled for arraignment Monday on the charge, which carries a mandatory six-year, three-month prison term.

He was being held in the Lane County Jail.
