Charged with rape but Leeds tell Morris to play on; HE HAS NIGHT IN CELL.
LEEDS United star Jody Morris yesterday appeared in court on a rape charge but was told he can still play for the club.
The 24-year-old is accused of attacking a woman aged 20 along with his friend Kristofer Dickie, 26 - son of a Scotland Yard detective.
They were rearrested on Tuesday over the alleged attack and spent the night in a police cell.
The pair spoke only to confirm their names when they appeared before Leeds magistrates.
Both men were first held last month after a woman claimed she had been raped in a lay-by near Wetherby, West Yorks. Morris, from Leeds, and Dickie, from Fulham, West London, were bailed to appear before a judge on December 17.
Leeds United said last night: "In law there is a presumption that a person is innocent until proven guilty. The club feel the proper course of action is to allow Jody Morris to resume his duties pending the conclusion of legal proceedings."
Morris's team mate Jermaine Pennant, 20, on loan from Arsenal, was also arrested over the alleged attack but released on police bail.
LEEDS striker Alan Smith, 23, arrested for throwing a plastic bottle into the crowd at Elland Road last month, will face no further action police said yesterday.
