Challengers reach tourney semis.

The Bi-Mart Challengers of Eugene reached today's championship semifinals by defeating Central Valley of Merced (Calif.) 7-0, and the Quality Financial Groups Titans of Springfield 6-3 on Saturday at the Papa's Pizza Invitational American Legion baseball tournament at Swede Johnson Stadium.

Dan Winterstein came within one hit of throwing a perfect game and Micah McJunkin smacked a solo home run to lead the Challengers' victory over Merced.

Winterstein was 3-for-4 with a double and Markus Lindsey stroked a two-run single to pace the Eugene team over Springfield. Cody Garner was 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the Titans.

Earlier Saturday, Garner hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Titans a 6-4 victory over the Beaverton Coloritos. Brooks Chapman went 2-for-3 for the Titans.

In other games, the Eureka, Calif., Falcons and the Eagle, Idaho, Vipers tied 4-4, the Boise Seminoles beat the Chico (Calif.) Nuts 7-1, Eureka and Eden Prairie (Minn.) fought to a 7-7 tie and the Redding (Calif.) Rattlers beat Beaverton 9-2.

The Challengers will meet Chico at 1:30 p.m. for a berth in the 6 p.m. championship game.

Springfield will face Eureka in the consolation semifinals at 9 a.m.
