Chairman of the Board at Cayenne Software Announces Retirement After Many Years of Service

Charles W. Bachman Considered "The Father of Database Management"

BURLINGTON, Mass., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Cayenne Software (Nasdaq: CAYN) today announced the retirement of Charles Bachman, chairman of the board and founder of Bachman Information Systems -- renamed Cayenne Software after the 1996 merger with Cadre Technologies.

"Cayenne has been lucky to have one of the world's foremost authorities on the architecture of computer software systems. Aside from holding several U.S. and foreign patents, Charlie is often referred to as 'the father of database management'," said Peter J. Boni, president and chief executive officer at Cayenne Software.

As an expert and innovator in the field of computing, Mr. Bachman developed the Integrated Data Store (IDS), the first commercially successful database management system. He is widely known for the Bachman Diagrams, as well as for forward and reverse engineering, which remain frequently used in data modeling and database design activities. Mr. Bachman founded Bachman Information Systems in 1983 and he brought the Company public in 1992.

Mr. Bachman has received numerous awards throughout his career, including a Life Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Software Council, and the Turing Award in 1973. He was also elected a Distinguished Fellow of the British Computer Society for his pioneering work in database management. Mr. Bachman holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University and a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied at the Towne School of Engineering and the Wharton School of Business. His replacement has not been named.
