Chairman NA body for timely provision of statistics.

Islamabad -- Chairman National Assembly standing committee on Statistics, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani has urged the need of timely provision of statistics and in effective manner eyeing the changing condition in fast pace.

The maiden meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Statistics was held here at Ministry of Statistics. Secretary Statistics, Rukhsana Yasmin and others top officials briefed the meeting about performance of the ministry and future course of action.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Ramesh said statistical figures are very essential to determine the quality in every walk of life and then subsequent planning supply and demand of the available resources for the population of a country. He said agriculture is the backbone of national economy. He stressed the need to collect data of agri sector for the last five years.

The standing committee was also informed about conducting of census was not vital after every ten years but according to procedure in the rest countries. The Chairman Standing Committee upheld that preparation and maintenance of statistical figures should be considered as a priority in national interest.

It was reiterated by the Standing Committee that the Ministry must ensure timely and accurate calculation of statistics. It was also agreed that the Therefore, it was recommended that steps may be taken to ensure transparent and accurate collection of statistical data from time to time and then conduct of census from every five to ten years.

About recent sugar crisis, Dr. Ramesh Kumar said that Ministry of Statistics must prepare report about production of sugarcane and sugar, consumption and mills in order to get help in decision making. He further said the ministry would also collect data of cancer patients and their treatment in its next report.

The efforts made by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in collecting and updating the data on monthly basis were also appreciated by the Members of the Standing Committee. He also urged the need of coordination between the ministry and media, saying important statistics must be given to media for national development. On this occasion, official of ministry of statistics admitted that details of disabled persons and eunuchs could not be unveiled.

Earlier, Federal Secretary, Ministry of Statistics, Rukhsana Yasmeen briefed the Standing Committee regarding the working, subjects, scope and future plans of the Ministry.

The meeting was attended by the MNAs including Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharral, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Lal Chand Malhi, Aqib Ullah Khan, S.A. Iqbal Qadri, MNA and senior officers from the Ministry of Statistics and Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
