Cessford call to row for GB just oarsome; ROWING.

ROWING starlet Hope Cessford wil be putting her oar in for Great Brtiain - after receiving another international call-up.

The teenager, a member of Durham Amateur Rowing Club, will fly the flag at this weekend's International Deutschen Ruderverbandes Junior Regatta in Munich.

She is part of a 32-strong squad which will take part in the regatta, organised by World Rowing, with strong contingents from Germany, Austria and the Czech Republicm involved as well as Great Britain.

Around 900 rowers from 16 nations, aged between 15 and 18, will take to the water.

Cessford, coached at Durham by Gordon Beattie, is the region's only representative in the squad.

She first represented GB at the World Junior Championships in Rotterdam last August in the women's pair along with Lauren Irwin, then of Chester-le-Street Amateur Rowing Club.

Colin Lawson of Durham ARC said: "This is great news for Hope and everyone at the club is very proud of her achievement."

Irwin, who now represents Durham University, won a silver medal in the women's four last weekend at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Regatta in Nottingham.

The Munich regatta takes place on the course used for the 1972 Olympics and comes two weeks before the Junior European Championships in Krefeld, Germany.

Cessford and Irwin rowed in the women's pair in Rotterdam last year.

Their call-up came after a series of gruelling GB selection trials.

Cessford had previously represented Durham ARC in the Women's Eights Head of the River Race and at Henley Women's Regatta.

She and Irwin also enjoyed notable victories in the senior women's pair race at the Metropolitan Regatta at Eton Dorney and in the eite women's pair event at Durham Regatta in 2016.
