Ceremony organized to Deliver Sehat Insaf Cards to Transgender Community.
PESHAWAR -- A ceremony was organized Friday in Peshawar Press Club to deliver Sehat Insaf Card to transgender community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by TransAction Alliance with support of Blue Veins a local NGO working for an inclusive society.
Reportedly, under the new plan the Sehat Insaf Card will give free-of-cost coverage for HIV/AIDS and all types of cancers.The programme will offer medical coverage worth Rs. 400,000 per family for tertiary care diseases, which would cover the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, emergency and trauma, all kinds of fractures, head and spinal injuries as well as joint replacement surgeries. The proposed plan would also offer medical coverage worth Rs280, 000 for as many as 1,000 types of secondary care diseases at DHQ-level hospital.
Farzana Jan President of the TransAction Alliance on this occasion said' Under Transgender Person's Protection of Rights Act 2018 it is illegal to deny health care services to transgender community across Pakistani but many transgender people continue to face discrimination in health care and coverage. Giving Sehat Insaf Card to transgender community is a very good step by the provincial govt as it provide a good option for avoiding or resolving discrimination and make it easier for transgender people to get access to the health care they need'
Qamar Naseem a Transgender Rights Activist and Program Coordinator Blue Veins, a local NGO appreciated the efforts of Secretary Social Welfare, Secretary Health, Director Social Welfare, for their efforts and commitment to empower transgender community. He said, 'Providing Trans-inclusive health coverage is critical for the transgender Community. The transgender population continues to face major challenges in accessing and obtaining appropriate health care. Formal trainings and revisions in health care manuals and curriculums can significantly reduce stigmatization, avoidance, discrimination and prejudice'
