Cepe changes statues and elects new board at annual meeting in Spain.

At its general assembly held June 4 in Barcelona, CEPE (the European Council of the Paint, Printing Ink and Artists' Colours Industry) amended its statutes and elected a new board.

The general assembly of CEPE, composed of national member associations and member companies, approved changes to the current statutes. Some changes were necessary to adapt the statutes to the new Belgian law on international non-profit making associations, according to CEPE. The other changes were made to improve the role of the decision making process in the governing body of CEPE in which large, small- and medium-sized enterprises are equally represented.

Based on the new statues, CEPE's board is now composed of 15 members (rather than 131 and each member must be either a chief executive or senior executive responsible for European operations. Eight members were selected from candidates representing large companies, five members from small-and medium-sized enterprises and two members from the printing ink industry represented by EuPIA, the European Printing Ink Association, a sector of CEPE.

New board members are: Knut Almestrand (Jotun A/S), Pierre-Marie De Leener (SigmaKalon Group), Ditlev Engel (Hempel A/S), Jean-Pierre Monteny (BASF Coatings AG), Visa Pekkarinen (Tikkurila Oy), Joao Serrenho (CIN S.A.), Rudy van der Meer (Akzo Nobel Coatings nv), William Wulfsohn, (PPG Industries Internatioual, Inc.), Pierre Gachet, (Zolpan S.A.), Michel Kranz (BICCS Industrial Coatings B.V.), Jacques Mcniccuci (ALLIOS), Peter Rieck, (Sonneborn & Rieck Ltd.), (Frode Weberg Star Maling- og Lakkfabrikk A/S), Peter Koivula (ANI Printing Inks) and David Meldram (Sun Chemical Europe).

Monteny was elected chairman and Serrenho was elected vice-chairman. According to the new statutes, the chairman and the vice-chairman of the board will be elected by the board, not by the general assembly.

In future, the candidates for election to the board will be presented by a nomination committee to ensure that geographical regions, business sectors and enterprise sizes are represented in a balanced manner.
