Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan sets date of Senate elections.

The joint meetings of the Supreme Council of Karakalpakstan, region, district and city councils, where members of the Senate of the Parliament of Uzbekistan will be elected, have been scheduled for January 16-17, the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan said.

Senators are elected no later than one month after election of local council members.

They are elected in equal proportion: 6 candidates from Karakalpakstan, regions and Tashkent each will be elected at the joint meetings of the Supreme Council of Karakalpakstan, region, district and city local councils from deputies via secret ballot.

Sixteen Senators are appointed by the President from reputed citizens, who have a big practical experience and who distinguished themselves in science, art, literature, production, other areas.
