Central City News: Specialist can advise men on impotence; EDGBASTON.

THE embarrassing problem of male impotence is being addressed by a specialist at an Edgbaston hospital.

February 14 is National Impotence Day to raise awareness of a problem experienced by most men at some stage in their life.

Birmingham Nuffield Hospital, in Somerset Road, has a consultant specialist in the field.

Erectile dysfunction affects five per cent of men in their 40s, 10 per cent in a 60-year-old, 15 per cent in 70-year-olds and when a man reaches 80 it rises to between 30 and 40 per cent.

Cause factors are high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, smoking and excessive alcohol.

To contact the Nuffield specialist, call patient services manager Clare Dowd on 0121 452 2815.
