A YEAR-LONG celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Leamington Spa Chamber of Trade has been launched.

Joint founders of the Warwickshire organisation - Burgis & Bullock and Wright Hassall - were at the launch.

A series of events will be staged over the next 12 months, including a black tie event at Leamington Town Hall on October 18.

Burgis & Bullock, accountants and business advisers, was set up in 1887 and now has offices in Leamington, Nuneaton and Rugby while Wright Hassall was formed in 1846 and has a large office in Leamington.

The centenary celebrations launch was marked with the unveiling of a timepiece called Hands Over Time at the entrance to the town hall.

A time capsule has also been placed behind the timepiece and will be sealed in August next year to mark the end of the celebrations.

Jonathan Meredith, partner at Burgis & Bullock, said: "It is a privilege to be part of such a prestigious and worthwhile organisation and we look forward to providing our continued support."

Wright Hassall's Mark Lewis said: "The Chamber of Trade has been influential and instrumental in many of the changes in the commercial life of the town over the years. We should remember those who have gone before us in the Chamber as well as looking to the future."
