Celebrate the summer in style with a stellar line-up from Liverpool Olympia; ADVERTISING FEATURE THE MAJESTIC BALLROOM HAS BEEN A KEY VENUE FOR SOME TOP PERFORMANCES FOR MORE THAN 110 YEARS.
AFTER recent jam-packed weekends in Liverpool, which have included reggae music celebrations at Positive Vibration and Liverpool's awardwinning Africa Oye, people are now anticipating the arrival of Toots and the Maytals. The Jamaican group will arrive at Liverpool Olympia - an impressive venue that's planted itself firmly in the Merseyside live music scene - on August 8, 2017.
"We're really looking forward to bringing one of the biggest and much-loved music groups of reggae to Liverpool. Toots are pioneers in this genre and they're known for their energetic live shows. To see them perform in the Olympia, which has such an electrifying atmosphere already, it'll be on another level," said promoter Joff Hall of VMS Live.
The Olympia is one of the oldest and biggest concert halls in Liverpool, with a huge history. And now, it's opening its doors to more popular and wonderful gigs.
Over its 110 year presence, the Olympia has served many uses, including a theatre, circus arena - the ornamental elephant details exist to this day - a cinema, and now a venue that's valued within the music scene. This venue has some serious charm and you can sense the history as soon as you walk through the doors.
A YEAR OF GREAT SHOWS Along with Toots, the Olympia has upcoming shows from Jesus and The Mary Chain, Shane Filan, Belinda Carlisle, Happy Mondays, and The Selecter and The Beat lined up for 2017. Despite such a variety, these all promise unforgettable evenings.
Few bands have had such a huge effect on musical culture as The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their attitude alone - dressed in black, angry with the world, playing short sets drenched in feedback - set the benchmark in the post-Sex Pistols music scene.
Manchester's legendary Happy Mondays are taking to the stage in December and frontman Shaun Ryder said: "I am really looking forward to the Monday's shows leading up to Christmas 2017. We're performing better than ever and I love getting together with the band, blasting out all our great tunes we've made together over the decades. It's going to be great."
Adding to the bill for the Olympia are 2-Tone legends The Selecter and The Beat who are teaming up to give fans a rare treat in December too. Life-long friends and renowned for their energetic live shows, they are two of the main bands to come out of the 2-Tone musical and cultural movement, which is still as relevant today as it was more than 30 years' ago. Longevity hasn't diminished either band's ability to put on a performance and get everyone dancing. If you haven't done so yet then now is the time to see what the Olympia has to offer.
