Cats cup tie is a dream draw for Lee.
LEE CLARK admits he is relishing the prospect of taking on recently relegated Sunderland in what can only be described as a powder-keg EFL Cup clash for the ex-Newcastle United and Black Cats man.
Fans of both North East clubs don't need to be reminded about Clark's passionate performances for the Magpies and the red-and-whites.
But when his current club Bury plucked out the Wearsiders in the draw the other week Clark couldn't have asked for a tastier tie.
As Sunderland recover from the ignominy of Premier League relegation they must find their feet in the first round of the EFL Cup on a night when Bury fans will be hoping for a scalp in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
Clark told the Chronicle: "We already had Sunderland pencilled in for a pre-season friendly.
"Then we'll fly to our training camp in Spain.
"It's the best draw for us. "Sunderland are the highest ranked team that are in this part of the draw.
"I know Aston Villa are in the draw too but the position that Sunderland were in makes it a good game for us.
"We also have the added bonus of it being on TV.
"The fixtures have just come out and we have Walsall at home, Sunderland in the cup and then a local derby game against Wigan who have just been relegated. It will be a really exciting start.
"We have my other old club, Huddersfield, in a friendly and we tried to get Newcastle in a friendly but couldn't find a suitable date for both clubs.
"Maybe we can look at it further down the line."
