The Roman Catholic Church marks today, August 6, the feast of the Transfiguration of Christ - the manifestation of the Divine Glory that proved that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
Feast masses will be held in Cavinti, Laguna, and Sto. Domingo, Angeles City, Pampanga.
On Sunday, August 11, Bishop Honesto F. Ongtioco will preside over a community mass at 10 a.m. at the Transfiguration of Christ Parish on 18th Avenue, Murphy, Cubao, Quezon City, in remembrance of the feast.
The Transfiguration, which took place on Mount Tabor in Galilee, marked the culmination of Jesus' public life, as His baptism marked its beginning, and His Ascension, its end.
Witnessed by three of Jesus' apostles, Saints Peter, James, and John, "Jesus suddenly became radiant and was seen speaking with Moses, the symbol of the law, and Elijah, the symbol of the prophets. A bright cloud appeared overhead and a voice was heard, 'This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him," paralleling a similar event during His baptism.
