BEIRUT: The Catholic Patriarch of Antioch, Gregorius III Lahham, warned that Christians in the region were facing "demographic extinction." Speaking Friday at a meeting of the Greek Catholic League at the Patriarchate in Rabweh, Lahham said "we Christians risk demographic extinction and face huge challenges," calling on league members to "formulate ideas" on how to address the phenomenon. The Palestine-Israel conflict, Lahham said, was the "sole" reason for emigration. The meeting focused on executing the recommendations of the Synod of the Catholic Church for the Middle East, and also discussed popular protests in the region. -- The Daily Star
