More and more parents are choosing to enroll their children into the sport as it promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend himself by using the proper technique. Jiu-jitsu also encourages a healthy lifestyle.
The Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Centre, the first academy in Dubai specialised in BJJ, has introduced the 'gentle art' to any one who appreciates martial arts.
Founded by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu BlackBelter and former world champion Rafael Haubert, the academy offers different levels of BJJ training and daily classes to beginners, ladies and children. Members get BJJ cross trainings and can even compete in tournaments.
A visit to the centre was heartening as the young ones displayed their interest in this gentle form of martial arts, said KT photographer Grace Guino
