WOMEN and girls as young as 14 were branded whores by an internet troll who posted hundreds of semi-nude snaps on Facebook.

More than 1000 people joined the "Dundee Whores" page before it was shut down by the social network. Now police are hunting the troll.

Most of the photos were taken with camera phones and showed females in underwear and provocative poses.

Many were accompanied by names and phone numbers. Some may have been posted by ex-boyfriends.

The page was taken down on Tuesday over "safety and security" issues after pleas from victims and families.

One young mother - an ex-pupil of the city's Lawside Academy - said: "Remove this pic. I am not a whore."

And a model's mum complained after her daughter was shown wearing a shirt unbuttoned to her navel. She wrote: "Get this photo off here. My daughter is not a whore."

The alarm was raised after a man thought he recognised his friend's daughter.

Film-maker Dylan Drummond, 42, said: "I phoned the police after I heard concerns that one may have been a 14-year-old daughter of a friend.

"Some photos were camera phone pictures that were never intended to be made public and some were photos of people pouting to cameras at parties."

A Facebook spokesman said: "Nothing is more important to Facebook than the safety and security of the people who use the site.

"Unfortunately one person determined to harass another will find ways to do so - online and offline."

A police spokesman said: "We are aware of the page and that it was closed down. We are making inquiries into the matter."
