Castle rock-solid in Red Mills.

THE Fraser Black-trained Ashford Castle retained his unbeaten career record when winning his semi-final of the Red Mills Open Unraced Stake at Clonmel on Sunday, writes Michael Fortune.

The race developed into a terrific head to head with Glenanore Dancer. Tom O'Neill's dog showed the superior early pace and led Ashford Castle around the bend. Down the far side the eventual winner moved up strongly and edged ahead on the final corner, kicking on for an eye-catching two lengths victory in 28.70sec.

Graham Holland's Ballyhill Beryl displayed a fine dash of early pace when winning the opening semi. She was always in control, racing home four lengths clear of Christys Bolt in 28.63sec.
