SUSPECTED cash machine thieves are being hunted by police.

Police last night released CCTV images of two women they wish to trace following a theft from a cash machine in Sunderland.

The incident happened at just before 10.10am, on Tuesday, June 25, at the ATM at Asda, on Leechmere Industrial Estate. The offender approached the machine and made off with PS20 left by a previous customer.

A Northumbria Police spokesman urged anyone with information to come forward and asked people using cash machines to be vigilant.

He said: "People are also being asked to be vigilant when using cash machines and to always remember to take their card and money with them.

"Anyone that spots any suspicious activity around a cash machine should also contact police."

Officers investigating the incident are keen to trace those pictured as they may have information to assist with enquiries.

Anyone who recognises the women is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191.
