Casey toils but Rose blooms.

Golf: Paul Casey, pictured, avoided any heckling but struggled in his first round on US soil since saying he hated Americans.

Justin Rose moved to within a shot of the lead at the Sony Open with a three-under-par 67, but Casey shot 75.

Fifteen-year-old Michelle Wie had far more gallery appeal but could only match Casey's 75.

Stewart Cink, Brett Quigley, Tom Byrum and Hank Kuehne shared the lead on 66 after the windswept first round at Waialae Country Club, one shot clear of Jonathan Kaye, Paul Azinger, Chad Campbell, Shigeki Maruyama, Tom Lehman, Jeff Sluman, Woody Austin, Rose and Andrew Magee.
