M2 BEST BOOKS-(C)2000-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Cartoonist Gary Larson admits that his complete collection of Far Side cartoons spanning 14 years - which weighs some 20 pounds - is a "hernia giver".

Published by Andrews McMeel at USD135, it comes nine years after Larson retired as a daily cartoonist.

The collection also includes 14 essays by Larson on his work and why he retired at the height of his popularity in 1994, with his cartoons syndicated in 1,900 newspapers.

Now 53, Larson does not consider himself retired, just not drawing - he says in the collection "been there, done that", reported USA Today.

'The Complete Far Side' was released in the US on 20 October 2003.
