Carter is the star as Town Ladies hold Albion goalless.

HUDDERSFIELD Town Ladies held FA Women's Premier League Northern Division title contenders Sporting Club Albion goalless in a bruising encounter.

Halesowen-based Albion lost two players to injury early on, both due to the uneven and bobbly playing surface.

The early part of the game was evenly matched with Town keeper Laura Carter being called into action on quite a few occasions.

She got some harsh treatment from the Albion strikers, but the referee handled things well and maintained order.

Debbie Hastings fired over the bar and then Emily Heckler had an excellent left-foot shot tipped over.

On the half hour, Carter made an excellent save low to her left, the first of a number of key touches before the break.

At the other end, Kate Mallin struck a free-kick just over the bar.

Rachael Ackroyd shot just wide early in the second half but twice in five minutes, Beth Jennings cleared off the line.

With 12 minutes remaining Heckler's shot was parried onto a post, but the rest of the game was all Albion.

Town's back four of Jennings, Fiona Berry, Alex Hindwood and Katie Lockwood combined with player of the match Carter to keep the home side out.

Town host Bradford City on Wednesday (8.00).
