Carrying on; NEW YEAR'S HONOURS LIST ENTERTAINMENT.

London-born Leslie Phillips, who is made a CBE, has been a much-loved British actor for more than 50 years.

He is famous for his catchphras-es: "Hellooo" and "Ding dong!" delivered in an upper class drawl. His rakish comic characters were perfected in the Carry On films and elsewhere, and he lived up to his leery image by posing with glamour model Jordan at the 2003 British Comedy Awards.

But the 83-year-old was always keen to prove his acting talents extended beyond slapstick.
