SO Andy Carroll supposedly wants to return to United Hammers boss Sam Allardyce and his long-ball game been tossed out, with big Kevin Nolan likely to follow.

Well, the good news is Carroll is a Geordie who for the club and is a striker devastating in the air who knocks opponents about.

The bad news? He is a crash waiting to happen - played only 14 games in the season just ended and was equally injury-prone Liverpool.

Carroll's strengths, too, a team is committed to to play football a certain way to get the best out of him.

A fit and raring-togo Carroll (right) might be an asset. But are we ever likely to see that animal again? United are already well stocked with players like Siem de Jong and Rolando Aarons who permanently have sick notes at the ready.

Their current No 9, Papiss Cisse, is also not without his problems, carrying a dodgy knee.
