Carr faces court over fraud and lies on CV.

MAXINE Carr was yesterday charged with benefit fraud and lying about her work qualifications to land her job at Soham's primary school.

The Crown Prosecution Service said it had decided to prosecute killer Ian Huntley's ex-girlfriend 'on 12 counts of deception and obtaining pecuniary advantage' between 1996 and 2002.

Carr was said to have obtained or to have tried to obtain pounds 375 through dishonest housing benefit claims.

She will appear at Peterborough Magistrates Court on March 26.

Carr faces a total of seven charges of benefit fraud, said to have been committed in Scunthorpe against North Lincolnshire Council.

Four of the charges allege deception in claims for housing benefit, two are connected with claims for income support and one relates to a claim for jobseeker's allowance.

The remaining five counts involve allegations that she gave false information about her qualifications in applications for jobs, a CPS spokesman said.

Hewent on: 'Two charges relate to statements made on her application for posts at St Andrew's Church of England Primary School in Soham.'

The news of the fresh charges against Carr came as a police chief revealed the vetting of Ian Huntley for his job as a caretaker at the village's school had been seriously flawed.

Cambridgeshire Chief Constable Tom Lloyd admitted there were 'significant errors' in his force's checking system.

The chief constable was testifying at the Bichard Inquiry as it probes how Huntley was able to land a job which involved working near children.

The inquiry heard Huntley had been checked under his alias of Nixon, the wrong date of birth was entered, no vetting request was made of Humberside Police, who had dealt with Huntley's past, and the file was closed before the checks were completed.
