Carpenters endorse Spitzer as next NY Governor.

The New York City District Council of Carpenters, representing more than 10 local unions, has endorsed Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's candidacy for Governor of New York State.

In announcing the endorsement, District Council executive secretary-treasurer and business manager Michael J. Forde said: "Eliot is the right guy for this job. As Attorney General, he has always placed the interests of New York's working men and women above all else. Now he has made clear that as our Governor he will be an advocate for real growth and will support important infrastructure projects throughout the state. I'm proud to join with my members in endorsing his candidacy."

In 2002, the Carpenters endorsed Governor George Pataki for re-election.

"It is an honor to receive this important endorsement. All of New York relies on the fruits of the important work that is accomplished by leading trades like the Carpentersm," Spitzer said. "I am proud to have them on board and I look forward to working closely with Mike Forde and his members as we develop the kinds of projects that will make New York State great once again. Thank you."

The District Council's endorsement comes as Spitzer has announced an impressive list of endorsements over the past month, including the New York City PBA, the Uniformed Fire Officers, former Mayor Ed Koch and over 30 Mayors from across the state.

Spitzer 2006 campaign manager Ryan Toohey commented on the significance of this endorsement: "We are Very excited to have the District Council of Carpenters as part of our team. They have proven time and time again to be an important political asset in their ability to contribute strategic, logistical and financial support to campaigns. We look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together."
