Caroline's system for support work success; Leading award for college graduate.

A SCHOOL support teacher and technician from Clayton West has received a top new award.

Marie Fisher, who completed a part-time Open College North West PC Technicians Level 3 course, has been named Kirklees Council ICT Technician of the Year 2008.

The awards ceremony was held at the Support Staff Conference at the Cedar Court hotel, in Huddersfield, and it hoped the awards will become an annual event.

Headteachers from Kirklees schools nominated support staff for an award and the winners were chosen by a panel of judges from Kirklees Council.

Lesley Butcher, head of Kaye's First and Nursery School, praised Marie's hard work and dedication: "She has researched and set up a complete ICT network in school, has trained to PC Technician Level 3, and maintains systems very efficiently.

Marie set up and constantly updates our excellent school website. In addition, she teaches the ICT curriculum to all groups of children in school.

She has been very important in our bid to secure ICT Mark," Lesley added.

After winning the award, Marie contacted the course tutor, Steve Harries, to praise the Level 3 course and the extra support received from the class forum.

The OCNW PC Technicians Level 3 course is a one year programme and runs on Wednesday mornings (9.30-12.20) at Slaithwaite Town H all.
