Carnival will continue visits.

CARNIVAL WILL CONTINUE VISITS. Following earlier reports indicating that Carnival Cruise Lines would no longer include San Juan as a homeport or port of call in its schedules starting mid-2014, Puerto Rico Tourism Co. Executive Director-designate Ingrid Rivera Rocafort revealed that Carnival is in the midst of opening cruise departures for sale through April 2015 within the next few weeks, reports Caribbean Business (April 18, 2013). "Carnival Cruise Lines will continue to visit the port of San Juan during the current 2013-2014 season and has been selling cruise departures from San Juan through April 2014. The Carnival Valor, which uses San Juan as a homeport, will continue to do the same for cruise departures through April 2015," Rivera Rocafort said. Ports Authority Exec. Dir. Victor A. Suarez Melendez pointed out that on April 9, five cruise ships dropped anchor in the port of San Juan. About 15,000 passengers disembarked in the Old San Juan sector that day, injecting around $3 million to the local economy, government officials estimated. Terry Thornton, senior vice president of Itinerary Development and Revenue Planning for Carnival, said that, "we look forward to continuing our successful year-round program of cruises departing from San Juan, which attracts more than 170,000 passengers each year."
