Carlsberg posts gains

Danish-brewed Carlsberg lager experienced 11.3 percent growth in the U.S. sales year-to-date versus the same period a year ago, according to the beer's American distributor, Anheuser-Busch, Inc.

Carlsberg finished with a 22.1 percent sales increase over 1988 and the Carlsberg family (Carlsberg, Carlsberg Light and Elephant Malt Liquor) experienced an 11-percent increase in 1989. Additionally, Carlsberg draft recorded a 31-percent increase in sales-to-date (through July).

"We are extremely pleased with Carlsberg's performance," said Brian Porter, senior brand manager, Anheuser-Busch. "Despite continuing softness of the import category as a whole through the first half of 1990, Carlsberg has maintained its momentum."

Porter said wholesalers commitment and a busy promotional calendar in key markets are some reasons for the brand's success.
