Carers make a film.

YOUNGSTERS have written, directed and starred in a film showing how being a carer affects their lives.

The DVD has won praise and will be used by schools and other professionals to raise awareness of children who care for members of their own family.

Their film chronicles a day in the life of a young carer who looks after a brother with behavioural problems.

The film makers are among more than a million children in the UK who care for relatives with behavioural problems, chronic illnesses, mental health issues and drug or alcohol problems.

Their film gives an insight into the difficulty carers face and the impact their role can have on their school work and social life.

Help and funding was given by Gateshead Council and Macmillan Cancer Support as part of the Gateshead Crossroads Caring for Carers project.
