Care home workers are cleared of abuse; Jury's unanimous verdicts in trial.
THREE care workers have been cleared of all charges of ill-treatment against senile residents at a Huddersfield care home.
Mark Senior, 28, Hope Young, 18, and Louise Dent, 24, were yesterday found not guilty of ill-treatment or neglect at Green View House, Gledholt.
The jury of nine men and three woman sitting at Leeds Crown Court returned unanimous verdicts on all 19 charges.
Mr Recorder Sandeep Kainth told the defendants: "You have all unanimously been found not guilty. You are of course free to leave."
Young, of Pennine View, Linthwaite, who was accused of eight charges and Dent, accused of one similar charge, were in tears as they left the courtroom.
The jury heard during the week-long trial how they and Senior were alleged to have ill-treated 12 residents.
The prosecution had alleged the residents had suffered "demeaning, degrading and sometimes violent" treatment. The care home has since closed. Senior, of Manchester Road, Linthwaite, who was accused of deliberately throwing a soft ball at dementia residents, told during the trial how it had accidentally hit residents.
He was cleared of spraying alcogel hand sanitiser in the face of one resident and throwing items down a corridor for another to fetch.
He admitted smacking resident Rosie Pearson's bottom during a playful childish prank but not as the prosecution alleged in a deliberate manner. He was cleared of this charge and another charge of putting his hand up her skirt.
Young was found not guilty of all charges including allegedly spitting in a resident's face and dragging a woman by her arm.
She maintained her innocence during the trial saying 'none of it ever happened'.
Dent, of Greenlea Court, Dalton, was cleared of pushing a resident with force after she was herself pinched.
She told the court at trial she never acted inappropriately towards residents where she has worked for a number of years.
