Cardiff residents taken aback by an unexpected water feature.

COMMUTERS had an unexpected view yesterday morning after a water hydrant burst in Cardiff city centre.

The water spurt on Custom House Street was more than 5m high. Welsh Water said it was caused by a contractor working in the area. People shared images of the burst water main on social media to warn others, especially cyclists.

Others joked it could be the city's newest water feature.

A Welsh Water spokesman said: "We were called after a third party damaged a water hydrant while working near Custom House, Cardiff city centre. Our team went straight to site and have now repaired the damage. There was no disruption to water supplies."
