APROPOS the letter 'Captain's remarks' (Feb 1). Personally speaking I do not blame Captain Sarfraz Ahmed for his spur of the moment remarks against another player.
Such language is common street speak that one hears in our day to day lives outside and inside our homes in our country. Perhaps this is part of our inheritance of century's old colonial legacy where we were disdainfully dubbed as the natives. When a child is born, the first thing people comment about is his/her complexion. Young and old men look for fair complexioned brides. Fair young ladies are considered in vogue in our TV and talk shows their acting skills do not make a difference. Fairness creams and allied concoctions are always in demand.
When we rid ourselves of this obsession with colour, maybe this will change?
