Capitals rural areas without health facility.

ISLAMABAD, April 17, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- The district administration has failed to provide basic health facilities to the residents of rural areas of the federal capital. The basic health units are in deplorable conditions and the project of construction of district hospital is still suspended. According to details, there are 14 basic health units for the 0.9 million population in 12 union councils but due to lack of government attention it had lost its importance. Among them, several units had no ambulance, X-ray machine and medicine and there is no medical store in some areas. Residents of Bara Kahu, Palgaran and Pand Begwal expressed no confidence in the health units, saying that there is no medical store for the population of 0.1 million. While, the district administration had announced construction of district hospital in Tarlai but the work on the project was yet to decided. The Development Working Party, in its recently held meeting also approved construction of district hospital at a cost of 530 million rupees and PEEPAK, company to prepare its design would brief the meeting again. The project would be sent to ministry of interior after IDWP clearance and then to ECNEC for approval but the timeframe was not given that how much will it take. Sources said that Rs 4.81 billion had been approved for the developmental projects in the rural areas among which work on 19 projects, was to be completed in 2008-09, has been stopped for which as an alternative the district government approved 1.17 billion rupees. The residents have demanded of the government to take solid steps on emergency basis and improve the condition of basic health units, as it did not need much money.
