Cape Verde : Cape Verde passes AMCOMET presidency to Egypt.
The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, attends the 4th session of the Ministerial Conference on Meteorology of Africa (AMCOMET) in Cairo on February 21, 2019. During the session, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Cape Verde, will move the AMCOMET presidency portfolio to Egypt.
It should be noted that Cape Verde took over the presidency of AMCOMET in February 2015, during the 3rd AMCOMET session in the city of Praia and coordinated the activities carried out during the 4 year period.
The African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET) is a high-level mechanism for the development of meteorology and its applications in Africa, established since April 2010 in Nairobi.
As a joint initiative of the African Union and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), AMCOMET's activities are based on the Integrated African Strategy on Meteorology (Climate and Climate Services) to ensure that Africa's Meteorological and Hydrological Services are better able to comply with their responsibilities and to deal with the new challenges of variability and climate change.
AMCOMET already contributes to the security and sustainable development of member states, particularly in efforts to reduce poverty, adapt to climate change, reduce gender disparities and reduce disaster risk, especially to those aspects aligned with the Millennium Development Goals.
