Cape Fear Chapter.
The Cape Fear Chapter has enjoyed continued increase in membership,
and stands now at 102 members strong and climbing. The Chapter is still
#1 in the "small chapter category" for membership. The
so-called "twofer" program, whereby two members can join for
the price of one, continues for new members. Their biggest fund-raising
event, the first annual golf tournament and dinner banquet was held at
the Carolina National Golf Club at Winding River Plantation on May 19th
during National Transportation Week; proceeds benefited the local
Chapter scholarship fund designed to assist graduating high school
seniors and college students related to Chapter members. Guest Speaker
was Major General Butch Pair, Chief of Staff, USTRANSCOM, who served in
that billet for several years. Attendees from the transportation and
logistics community from across the country were in attendance. Industry
sponsorship was strong, too, with a big "thanks" to Steve Kerr who went the extra mile to make this a memorable event.
On May 20th, members joined "Industry Day" at the
Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) where updates were provided
on the on-going progress on the terminal along with industry briefs. And
on May 22nd, the NC State Port hosted "Maritime Day" and Open
House in Wilmington. It was a truly ambitious, and successful, schedule
in honor of National Transportation Week.
