Cap it all offences; Burglars snared by DNA on their hats.

Byline: DANIEL SHERIDAN

TWO callous burglars were trapped by the DNA on their flat caps.

Shane Richards and Carl Riddiough were identified by the hats after an appeal.

Experts then linked DNA and glass shards from the caps to the crime scenes in what police called a "com plex investigation". The elderly were targeted in North York shire towns in a series of distraction thefts last August, York crown court heard.

The pair, both 30 and from Doncaster, pleaded guilty to burglary and were jailed for four and a half years each.
