Canine honours; COMMENT The policy of honesty. The might of right. The expediency of principle.

HOW heart-warming to read about the hero dogs who make a real difference to people's lives.

The Examiner has supported the Dog Star Awards to recognise the canine contribution to society.

The plight of some of the dogs makes you weep. Yet, thanks to people who care, these dogs have been helped to live happy lives.

It's true that dogs are man's (and woman's) best friend and these most loyal of pets are always there when you need them.

Dudley, owned by Susan Elliott, won the Assistance Dog Award.

He is a registered pet therapy dog who brings comfort to elderly people at the care homes he regularly visits.

He's also at Susan's side as they collect for various good causes.

It's not just humans who go above and beyond, and it's nice to reward our dogs with more than just a biscuit!
