Canadian dramatic soprano Susan Tsagkaris got an early start on the 2013 Richard Wagner bicentennial when renowned British Wagner soprano Jane Eaglen invited her to attend a Wagner Intensive hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Cleveland earlier this year. Tsagkaris rehearsed and performed as Brunnhilde in excerpts from Die Walkure and Gotterdammerung and Isolde in Tristan and Isolde. A crew from German national TV broadcaster Deutsche Welle was also on hand at the Wagner Intensive, and it filmed Tsagkaris as the featured North American performer for a segment of an upcoming TV special to be aired in Germany and Europe in November commemorating the Wagner bicentennial. In September, Tsagkaris participated in another birthday celebration when she sang the soprano solo in Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony's performances of Beethoven's 9th symphony to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Kitchener (known until World War I as Berlin).
