Canada to grant visa to 25,000 skilled workers.
Muscat: Canada has announced it will accept applications of 25,000
skilled workers under Federal Skilled Worker Programme (FSWP) in 2014.
It was just 5,000 in 2013. The move follows the much awaited Priority
Occupation List (POL) corresponding to the FSWP of Canada that was
revealed recently by the citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC). It
carries 50 occupations which are in high demand in Canada where a sub
cap of 1,000 applications per occupation has been set. "The number
of eligible occupations has more than doubled, from just 24 last year.
Prospective immigrants can file their cases under this programme
now," Deepak Kochhar, vice president, WWICS Group, a global
consultancy which has offices in India, Middle East, Africa, Canada and
Australia, said. Commenting upon the released FSWP details, Lt. Col. B.
S. Sandhu (Retd.), CMD, WWICS, said, "After 2008, it is for the
first time that such an extensive list has been laid down by the
Canadian Immigration Authorities. This occupation list has been
identified after scanning the massive shortage of professionals in the
mentioned occupation areas and will assist Canada in its economic
growth. This is probably the last time for individuals to file their
immigration cases under the FSWP with the existing selection criteria as
in the year 2015, the FSWP will convert into a new format of selecting
applications known as Expression of Interest, popularly known as Express
Entry." The FSWP selects willing immigrants with probability to
succeed economically and survive in Canada. Ramesh Raja, an Indian expat
who is planning to migrate to Canada, is excited about the FSWP.
"This programme is the most popular route for aspirant immigrants
to make a move to shift to Canada, so a lot of people in Muscat will be
interested," he said. Recently, a high-powered team of WWICS also
organised a seminar in Muscat to apprise the prospective immigrants
about ethical and customised immigration options to various countries,
including Canada. The seminar was attended by over 500 immigration
aspirants and the experts provided customised solutions on various
avenues of career opportunities and employment, attractive job offers
for aspirants and spouses coupled with settlement options in Canada,
Australia, the United States, the UK and Europe.
