Canada 150 Celebrations/Ceeleebrations du 150E Anniversaire du Canada: a new symphonic piece by composer Louis Babin to be premiered as part of Canada 150 celebrations.

Laval, January 10, 2017--The world premiere of composer Louis Babin's new symphonic piece Retrouvailles will be performed in February by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO), as well as, the Orchestre symphonique du SaguenayLac-Saint-Jean (OSSLSJ). This joint commission by both orchestras is part of the Canada Mosaic project which fits in the celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary all around the country. The fanfare composed by Louis Babin will serve as opening piece to two concerts, on February 5th in Chicoutimi, and on February 10th in Toronto.

Retrouvailles calls for celebration and sharing amongst friends and family. Through his music, composer Louis Babin wishes to remind us that, "whatever our origins and our beliefs are, it is by acknowledging our differences and uniting our talents that we can all flourish, and anticipate with such joy our Retrouvailles (reunion)." The ambitious musical project Canada Mosaic is conducted by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, teaming up with orchestras and ensembles across the country for an unprecedented panCanadian celebration. Over 40 new works--including a number of pieces known as "Sesquies"--have been commissioned and will be performed all around Canada in 2017.

About Louis Babin

Louis Babin's work has been acclaimed in Canada and abroad. His 2015 album features his symphonic piece Saint-Exupery : de cxur, de sable et d'etoiles , an hommage to Antoine de SaintExupery, the publication of which was supported by the Antoine de Saint-Exupery Youth Foundation. The album received outstanding reviews. Many music ensembles and performers from Canada, the United States, and Europe have commissioned or performed Louis Babin's works. He is known for his modern, playful, accessible, and cinematographic works. He received a special mention from the World Music Competition IBLA Grand Prize (Italy) and was a finalist in the Canadian Music Centre Composer Competition--Quebecor. Laval, le 10 janvier 2017--La nouvelle reuvre symphonique Retrouvailles du compositeur Louis Babin sera presentee en premiere mondiale par le Toronto Symphony Orchestra et l'Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean en fevrier prochain. Cette commande conjointe des deux orchestres fait partie du projet Mosaique canadienne qui s'integre aux celebrations du 150e anniversaire du Canada. Cette fanfare composee par Louis Babin sera presentee comme piece d'ouverture de deux concerts, le 5 fevrier a Chicoutimi et le 10 fevrier a Toronto.

Retrouvailles se veut une invitation a la fete et au partage entre parents et amis. L'ambitieux projet musical Mosaique canadienne est pilote par le Toronto Symphony Orchestra, qui fait equipe avec des orchestres et ensembles canadiens pour une celebration unique de la musique creee par des compositeurs d'ici. Plus de 40 nouvelles reuvres orchestrales--incluant des fanfares (ou << sesquies >>)--ont ete commandees et seront presentees en 2017.

A propos de Louis Babin

Les reuvres de Louis Babin ont ete acclamees au Canada et a l'etranger. Son album paru en 2015 propose son reuvre pour orchestre Saint-Exupery : de cxur, de sable et d'etoiles, un hommage a Antoine de Saint-Exupery. La Fondation Antoine de Saint-Exupery pour la Jeunesse a soutenu la parution de cet album qui a valu de nombreux eloges au compositeur. Plusieurs ensembles et interpretes du Canada, des Etats-Unis et d'Europe ont commande ou interprete ses reuvres. Louis Babin est reconnu pour ses reuvres modernes, ludiques, accessibles et cinematographiques. Il a recu une mention speciale au IBLA Grand Prize International Music Competition (Italie) et a ete finaliste au Concours de musique quebecoise (volet composition) du Centre de musique canadienne, presente par Quebecor.
