Canada : NEW owners of GELT WOODS to secure approval for estate building.

An old woodland at the core a high-profile criminal case has been sold, and the first job for the buyers of Gelt Woods, near Brampton, is to secure approval for an estate building, which has already been constructed without consent.

Carlisle City Council planners is set to grant approval to the retrospective application, which has triggered controversy among those residing nearby.

In planning documents, Hayton parish council says that granting approval for work already done 'sets a dangerous precedent'.

Opponents say the once popular woodland spot has become an 'area to avoid' during the shooting season due to the noise.

The construction plans include storage rooms, a kitchen, shower rooms, a toilet and main room.

It exists on land adjacent to the River Gelt, an area designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
