Sophomore Teresa Ryan of Worcester, who converted from midfielder to goalkeeper for the women's soccer team this fall, earned both victories as the AmCats started 2-0 for the first time since 2007. ... Junior forward Nichole Lowe was named NECC field hockey Player of the Week for Sept. 2, while freshman midfielder Lauren Beauregard of Hubbardston earned NECC Rookie of the Week. In the AmCats' season-opening 4-0 win over Colby-Sawyer, Lowe had three assists while Beauregard backboned the defensive effort.


Freshman field hockey forward Meghan Sullivan of Worcester/Notre Dame Academy was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week. Sullivan scored two goals in AC's season-opening overtime win against Seton Hill. ... Freshman forward Ethan Morrow was named NE-10 men's soccer Rookie of the Week. Morrow scored three goals to lead the Greyhounds to two wins and the Catholic Cup title. ... Freshman defender Emily Hill was named NE-10 women's soccer Rookie of the Week. She had a goal and two assists to lead Assumption to the Catholic Cup title. ... Junior Andrew Dame of Oakham/St. John's, who shot a second-round 70 with a 32 on the back nine to win the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, was named NE-10 Golfer of the Week. ... Junior Tony Fierimonte of Northboro/Algonquin Regional was named NE-10 men's cross-country Athlete of the Week. Fierimonte won the Shacklette Invitational at St. Anselm, covering the 8-kilomenter course in 27:27.


Longtime women's soccer coach Joe Brady was promoted to assistant athletic director over the summer. In his new role, Brady will oversee the department's alumni endeavors, scheduling, intramurals, sports information, event operations, serve as liaison to information technology, and continue as the director of the Clark High School Tournament. Last week, Brady became the winningest coach in Clark women's soccer history. ... Men's basketball coach Paul Phillips announced that Pat Oroszko has been elevated to associate head coach and that former assistant John Ginnity will return to the program as a volunteer assistant. ... Former men's basketball star Dan Trant, who died in the 9/11 attacks 12 years ago today, will be the first person profiled by the NCAA in its "40 for 40'' series. The weekly online series debuts today on as part of the NCAA's celebration of 40 years of Division 3 athletics.

Junior Kelli McPherson, who totaled eight points during the field hockey team's 2-0 start, was named Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week. McPherson had a hat trick against Salve Regina.

Southern New Hampshire senior Samantha Whittier of Sutton was named NE-10 women's soccer Goalkeeper of the Week. She posted two shutouts as SNHU opened with a pair of wins. ... Westfield State freshman Taylor Surrette of Rutland was named MASCAC women's cross-country Rookie of the Week. At the Smith College Invitational, she was the second Westfield finisher and 39th overall, covering the 5,000-meter course in 21:23.63. ... East Carolina junior Steph Seagrave of Uxbridge scored her first goal of the season as the Pirates played Elon to a 1-1 double-overtime draw. ... University of New England freshman Ryan Stephens of Stow was named Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer Rookie of the Week. He scored his first collegiate goal in a 1-0 win over Thomas.
