Campaigners for release of Georges Abdallah call resistance to intervene.
NNA - The International Campaign for the release of Georges Abdallah on Thursday staged a sit-in in front of the French Embassy in Beirut, in protest at the rejection by the French judiciary of an appeal to free Abdallah. France today rejected the ninth appeal for the release of Abdallah, held in a French prison since 1984 for alleged involvement in the killing of an Israeli diplomat and an American military attachA' in Paris in 1982. He should have been freed in 1999 as per the French penal code, but Paris has revoked nine appeals for his release. Bassam Qantar, a spokesperson for the campaign, upped calls upon the Palestinian and Lebanese resistances "to take the case into account and adopt the suitable mechanism to release Abdallah." "The French judiciary has unfortunately yielded to Zionist and American pressures," he said. Abdallah is entitled to appear before a new judicial commission to appeal for his release in two and a half years. =========R.A.H.
