Campaign initiated for water conservation, its availability to all.

KARACHI -- Engro Corporation here on Friday launched a campaign to support the sustainable Development Goal 6 focused on conserving water and to provide the same to all by 2030.

The pledge made to mark World Water Day 2019 was themed as "Leave No One Behind" ensuring that stakeholders are actively engaged at every level in the water conservation campaign, particularly in drought prone areas of the province, during next ten year time - with equal attention towards sustainability of the same.

Plant Manager of Engro's Zarkhez program, Wajid Hussain Junejo, in his detailed presentation said the majority of the country's population, especially in rural areas, hold little or no access to safe drinking water.

"Their lands, agriculture, households, schools, workplaces, farms and plants also seem struggling to survive," he said.

Mentioning that Engro Zarkhez plant is in constant search to find new ways to conserve water that can also be made available elsewhere for economic as well as social needs, he said the efforts have paid off in terms of improving the water consumption patterns.

"We have been able to reduce our water consumption by a massive 45% by making our internal processes more efficient and using sprinkler irrigation system for the green patches," he said. Soomro said Engro has also launched pitcher irrigation system replacing flood irrigation at its site in Tharparkar where every single drop of waste water is recycled and not wasted in any manner. "We have also revamped our drinking water systems at the site and established clean drinking water stations at various locations where quality of water is maintained in accordance with global standards frequently checking the set parameters," elaborated the conservationist. Reiterating that the organization was passionate to ensure that its policies and procedures are environmentally friendly, he said all its workers were fully conscious of their surroundings.
