CAMILLA Parker Bowles has called in Donatella Versace to pep up her image, The Mirror can reveal.And here, without charge, is how we reckon Prince Charles' love could leap from tweedy English countrywoman to sleek glamour icon - at a price.
Donatella, whose haute-couture gowns can set one back pounds 10,000, has already "whipped up" some long pastel coats and matching frocks for 52-year-old Camilla. But a Versace spokesman at the fashion empire's Milan HQ insisted: "Ms Parker Bowles will not get anything for free."
By plumping for Versace, Camilla is following in the footsteps of many celebs. Liz Hurley, Linda Evangelista, Lucy Liu and Jennifer Lopez are all huge fans - as are Elton John and Sting.
And, coming just two weeks after The Mirror showed a sleeker Camilla in turquoise swimsuit in Mauritius, it confirms she's ditching her old image. It was branded dowdy and mumsy by some while others, like Stella McCartney, had more principled objections. Designer Stella, who shares her parents' passion for animal rights, refused to meet fox-hunting Camilla at her Paris show last year.
But one source said: "Camilla has never been quite the complete country horsewoman she has been made out to be.
"She has always enjoyed fine clothes and is a particular admirer of Versace. She just wants to look her best."
