Camera torched.

A DISGRUNTLED driver set fire to a speed camera on one of Coventry's busiest roads, putting it out of action and causing thousands of pounds in damage.

The arsonist wedged a bicycle tyre around the speed trap on the A45, near Toll Bar island, and set it ablaze.

The camera, which covers a stretch of Stonebridge Highway, will cost up to pounds 4,000 to be repaired.

It is believed the culprit was either a driver with a grudge against speed cameras or may have just been caught by the camera and was trying to destroy the evidence.

Mobile speed cameras were positioned in the damaged unit's place within hours of the arson attack, between Toll Bar island and the A46 turn-off, at about 11.10pm on Tuesday.
