A consortium led by the Canadian telecomms equipment maker Nortel Networks has won a contract to upgrade Callahan Associates International's cable network in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.

Under the agreement the consortium will supply infrastructure, including various IP and optical components from Nortel, to enable Callahan to deliver a range of advanced communications services for both its business and residential subscribers beginning in 3Q'2002. The services will include high-speed Internet access, high-performance video, Internet protocol services, data transmission, voice telephony, digital TV programming and interactive TV.

The value of the contract was not revealed.

Earlier this year a Nortel-led consortium was selected to upgrade the cable network of Kabel NRW, a Callahan subsidiary, in the German federal state of North Rhine Westphalia.
