Call to invest in rural areas.

MIRPURKHAS -- Speakers highlighted the need to make more investment in rural areas to tackle growing rural poverty.

They were speaking at a seminar titled searching new path for rural development in the age of technology. The seminar was organised by Goth Sudhar Sangat Tando Kolachi, at village Tando Kolachi near Jhuddo town on Monday.

Speaking at the seminar, educationist Prof Qalander Shah said that education is crucial for development and quality education in rural areas must be promoted. He urged that people of rural areas may be provided equal opportunity for technical education to harness their skills for growth and development.

Dr Hussain Bux Kolachi said that first branch of Goth Sudhar Sangat was established on 1st January 1982 in village Tando Kolachi to promote sustainable rural development.

He said that today the village has become model and has a number of basic facilities. He added that community-based organisations could play a pivotal role in rural development and such institutions must be strengthened at grass root level.

Nasir Ali Panhwar said that instead of waiting for outside support, local organizations can address local problems on self-help basis. He added that this has been proved by Goth Sudhar model. He said that founder of Goth Sudhar Sangat, late Dr. Khan Mohammad Panhwar went to remote areas and organized communities through the network of Goth Sudhar Sangat in the 1980s. He said that rural-urban disparity is increasing and this gap could only be reduced through an allocation of equitable resources in rural and urban areas.

Ghulam Mustafa Jamro, Regional Manager of national rural support programme said that rural support programmes are working to improve the socio-economic conditions in rural areas.

Humera Shams of Thardeep, Nadia Soomro of FPAP, Parwati Kolhi, Jethram of PPHI, Nawab Ali Kaka, Gohram Baloch, Aisha Kolachi, Mir Tariq Talpur, Sahil Bughio, Saira Baloch from University of Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Brahmani, Nadir Leghari, Manzoor Leghari, Malik Chandio, Saeendino Nohri and others also spoke on the occasion.
